The Building Operator Certification Level I (BOC I) class is designed for building operations staff such as building operators, maintenance technicians, facility maintenance workers, HVAC technicians, and junior facility managers who typically have 1–5 years of experience in operating or maintaining commercial or institutional buildings. The course targets people working in schools, hospitals, municipal buildings, offices, and industrial facilities who want to build practical skills to improve energy efficiency, reduce operating costs, and advance their careers in facilities management and building operations.
The Course
The Building Operator Certification Level I (BOC I) course is a nationally recognized training program that teaches building operators and maintenance staff the fundamentals of energy-efficient building operations and systems maintenance. The course covers topics on each of the 8 days:
- February 20: Building Operations & Systems
- March 6: Building Energy Conservation
- March 13: Lighting Theory & Efficiency
- March 27: Electrical Systems & Distribution
- April 10: HVAC Controls & Operation I
- April 17: HVAC Controls & Operation II
- May 1: Indoor Air Quality Theory & Techniques
- May 15: Energy Management Planning
8 in-person/virtual, Friday class meetings from 8AM-4PM over the course of 3 months
