LRCC’s star Culinary Arts student, Reynard Robson, is a story of promise, perseverance, and passion. Hailing from Indonesia, his family followed his grandmother to Somersworth, NH, in 2021. In three years, he adapted to a new culture, mastered conversational English, was introduced to our Culinary Arts program through his high school, and was awarded a full ride to LRCC through scholarships. Entering year two at LRCC, Reynard is well on his way to a world of opportunity and culinary stardom.

While his grandmother’s bakery in Indonesia introduced him to the culinary world, this personal connection of cooking meals for his little brother sparked his interest in cooking. “The first meal I ever made was fried rice for my little brother, and I still love this dish,” said Reynard when asked about his favorite meal to cook.

When Reynard and his family moved to the U.S., they sought new opportunities, and Reynard made a promise to his mother: he would say “yes” to every opportunity that came his way. And he hasn’t let her down.

Somersworth High School introduced him to a commercial kitchen through the Early College Program, which solidified his dedication to the culinary arts. With guidance from Chef Kayla Harper of LRCC and encouragement from his high school mentor, Reynard applied to LRCC’s Culinary Arts Program. His potential was recognized with the Randy M. Cummings Scholarship, which covered his entire tuition.

In his first year at LRCC, Reynard embraced campus life and the culinary community. He moved into student apartments, joined the Hospitality Club, and participated in various on-campus and community events. His skills were highlighted in competitions like SkillsUSA, where he earned a silver medal and had the opportunity to visit Washington, D.C., with classmates. As a senior this year, Reynard will return to D.C. to prepare and serve food at Senator Shaheen’s annual Experience NH event.

“Reynard continues to embrace all opportunities that LRCC has to offer while providing leadership and encouragement to fellow students and community members.  His culinary talent, genuine personality, and infectious passion for food will take Reynard far in the Hospitality Industry”, said Chef William Walsh, Associate Professor and Chair of Culinary Arts.

Over the summer, Reynard returned to his hometown and worked at Jersey Mike’s, where his dedication was recognized with an offer for a General Manager position. Despite this enticing opportunity, Reynard returned to LRCC to complete his degree.

Reynard Robson’s future in the culinary world is brimming with potential. While he remains open to where his journey will lead, his goal is to explore every facet of the industry and experience diverse cuisines around the globe. His journey reflects the pursuit of opportunities and a dedication to honoring his promise, making him a standout figure on a path to great success.
