Through a partnership with WorkReadyNH and the International Institute of New England in Manchester, eight refugees and immigrants from four countries, who have been in the US for less than one year, recently completed the first WorkReadyNH Soft Skills Course at IINE! What is WorkReadyNH?
WorkReadyNH is a practical, tuition-FREE professional skills training program that builds the skills that help employees succeed in the workforce, and that NH employers highly desire.
This program was developed through discussions with NH employers with the goal of strengthening our workforce. The skills employers value most in current and potential employees are:
- Professional Soft Skills, including effective communication, teamwork, conflict resolution, problem solving, and decision making
- Foundational Essential Skills, including how to read and use workplace documents, interpret graphical material, and apply mathematical reasoning.
What Will You Learn?
Instructor-Led Professional Soft Skills Class
Participate in a blend of live, interactive class and independent work. Our curriculum and instruction is designed to help you develop, practice, and apply workplace skills and strategies.
Learn and have fun in this simulated workplace setting to enhance and practice the powerful Professional Soft Skills that employers want most.
Soft Skills Focus Areas
Understand your professional strengths and identify transferable skills. Identify appropriate next steps for career advancement. Tap into the power of networking.
Learn how to better leverage your skillset on paper and in an interview. Revamp your resume to best suit your career path. Practice interviewing and crafting your messaging to employers.
Appreciate that communication is the foundation for any successful interaction or relationship. Listen with intention and apply new strategies to the way you communicate.
Understand the stages of teamwork and how to strengthen your teams. Apply skills during class discussions and team activities. Practice new skills and strategies throughout the course in a supportive environment.
Identify your thinking style, including areas of strength and improvement. Work through critical thinking processes to build or analyze arguments. Develop analytical thought systems and creative thinking techniques.
Analyze information to understand problems and identify potential solutions. Work through scenarios to develop the best approach for resolution.
Understand the types and stages of conflict, how conflicts can escalate, and common resolution styles. Increase verbal and non-verbal positive messaging to move toward resolution. Confidently develop effective techniques for intervention and de-escalation.
Get familiar with basic expectations from all employers. Understand differences between ethics, values, and morals. Identify your values and morals.
Identify and appreciate all types of diversity and learn how to foster it. Recognizing bias and stereotyping, and how we can adjust our perceptions. Understand differences between workplace incivility, harassment, and bullying.
Understand customer service elements and how your own behavior affects the behavior of others. Apply techniques to deal with difficult customers. Increase your confidence and skill as a problem solver.
Identify workplace hazards and assess risk for employee groups. Proactively reduce risk. Be able to respond to, investigate, and document any incidents.
Self-Guided Foundational Skills Curriculum
Advance through self-paced online tutorials to assess and improve Foundational Workplace Skills for effective job performance and career success across industries.
Then, measure and certify these skills using ACT’s National Career Readiness Assessments. Certificate levels are tied to an extensive database of over 22,000 careers.

ACT’s National Career Readiness Assessments measure your foundational workplace skills. Earned upon passing your National Career Readiness Assessments, issued by ACT.
WorkReadyNH Graduate Certificate
WorkReadyNH Graduates demonstrate work readiness in soft and foundational areas. Earned upon passing both the Soft Skills and Foundational components of WorkReadyNH.

You must be at least 16 years of age, able to participate in the class in English, and a NH resident If you aren’t a resident, but are a member of the NH workforce, please reach out!
What about it?? WorkReadyNH Graduates come from all walks of life:
- AGES – 16 through 80+
- EDUCATION – No high school diploma to Master’s and PhD
- WORK EXPERIENCE – No experience to 50+ years of experience, and from all job sectors
- EMPLOYMENT STATUS – unemployed, underemployed, and fully employed
