Scouting America New Hampshire is proud to announce its upcoming Merit Badge Day, to be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Lakes Region Community College in Laconia. The event will bring together Scouts from across the region, with more than 300 merit badges expected to be earned in a single day of immersive, hands-on learning.

Twelve carefully selected merit badges will be offered, many focusing on career exploration and vocational skills that align with high-demand trades and technical fields.

These include:

  • Automotive Maintenance – Introducing Scouts to engine mechanics, diagnostics, and
routine car care, preparing them for potential careers in automotive technology.
  • Gardening – Teaching sustainable food production and landscape design fundamentals, which are valuable in horticulture, agriculture, and environmental science.
  • Chemistry – Future scientists, lab technicians, and engineers must provide lab-based experience in chemical reactions and safety protocols.
  • Graphic Arts – Covering digital and print media techniques, ideal for students interested in advertising, design, and multimedia production.
  • Fire Safety – Offering real-world insight into fire prevention and emergency response, a steppingstone for firefighting or public safety careers.

Additional badges will broaden the Scouts’ understanding of practical, real-world skills and trades. By working with experienced instructors and industry professionals, Scouts will gain exposure to career pathways they may not have otherwise considered. “This event goes beyond badges—it’s about planting seeds for the future,” said Michael Farr, Director of Activities of Scouting America New Hampshire. “Our goal is to help Scouts discover their interests and build the skills that can lead to lifelong passions or careers.”
Lakes Region Community College is an ideal setting for the event, offering access to technical facilities, labs, and classrooms that give Scouts a first-hand look at educational pathways that lead to skilled professions.

The event will run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Parents, troop leaders, and community members are encouraged to attend and support the Scouts on this exciting day of achievement and discovery. For more information or to register, please visit www.nhscouting.org.
