Lakes Region Community College staff was happy to support Special Olympics NH’s efforts by running into Lake Winnipesaukee’s icy waters last Sunday for the organization’s annual Winni Dip. The event took place at The Margate Resort and ran the course of three days.

The theme for the weekend was “Party like it’s 1999” and LRCC’s team “The Lake Monsters” took first place in the costume contest with their Simpson’s attire. A Lisa, Marge, Maggie, Side Show Bob, Millhouse, and Flanders all braved the frigid temps in support of a fantastic cause.

LRCC came in second for their fundraising efforts raising a total of $3,519 and donated an additional $1,000 as a sponsor for the event. The Winni Dip on Sunday raised $31,973.40 and the three-day total came to $284,600.61 to support the athletes and programs of SONH!

“This event definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone, but it was a fun way to spend time with my colleagues and support an important cause,” said Karen Schaffner, Human Resource Manager for LRCC.

The college’s new mascot “Winnie the Lakes Monster” made her first public appearance at the Winni Dip and gained new fans from all who met her. The public will get the chance to meet Winnie at community events and will be featured in some program videos for LRCC.

“The amount of support shown for these athletes is so deserved and heart-warning. We are so proud to be part of this cause and we are already making plans for next year,” said Katie Sweet, Marketing and Public Relations Manager for LRCC.
