This anthropological survey course covers the prehistory, history, cultural characteristics, and diversity of native peoples of North America.  Culture areas investigated include the Arctic, Subarctic, Northwest Coast, Plateau, California, Great Basin, Southwest, the Great Plains, Eastern Woodlands (Northeast and Southeast), Mesoamerica, and the Caribbean Islands.  The course will also cover the impacts of European contact, adaptations, the revival of native culture, and contemporary issues of native peoples today.
