More than 250 NH middle and high school students stepped into the world of public service, healthcare, and community support during today’s Healthcare and Human Services Career Expo. The event was hosted at LRCC in partnership with the Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce, ApprenticeshipNH, and New Hampshire Employment Security. Students experienced real‑world demonstrations and meaningful conversations with professionals while gaining a clearer sense of the possibilities ahead of them.

Hearing from Community Professionals
The day included informative panels featuring representatives from local police and fire departments, healthcare professionals, and LRCC representatives. Students heard firsthand what it takes to build a career in these essential fields—from the challenges and rewards of emergency response to the growing opportunities in healthcare and human services. The panelists shared personal stories, answered student questions, and emphasized the importance of teamwork and lifelong learning.

Exploring the Campus
Students toured the LRCC campus, where they experienced a series of engaging demonstrations:

  • Science Lab: Faculty showcased our lab space and performed a dissection.
  • Fire and EMT Demonstrations: The LRCC Fire Science team showed students how house fires affect building construction while EMT demonstrated ways to control bleeding.
  • Police K‑9 Demonstration: The K‑9 unit demonstrated obedience, search skills, and the strong bond between officers and their canine partners.

Connecting with Local Employers
Students had the chance to meet with representatives from local healthcare and human services organizations. These conversations opened doors to future internships, volunteer opportunities, and career pathways. Employers shared insights into the growing demand for skilled workers and encouraged students to explore the many ways they can make a difference in their communities.

LRCC has two more career expos this spring. There will be an “all careers” expo on March 13th and a hospitality expo on April 10th.
