New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu has proclaimed May 9, 2024 “Lakes Region Community College Day”. This honor and recognition are a testament to the community’s unwavering support of Lakes Region Community College (LRCC) for their integral role and outstanding educational contributions, with a specific reference to its esteemed Fire Science Program. The date coincides with the college’s Festival on the Hill event, commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Fire Science Program, a celebration made possible by the community’s active participation and keen interest in LRCC’s endeavors.

“This is a tremendous honor for Lakes Region Community College to be recognized by Governor Sununu,” said Patrick Cate, LRCC president. “For 50 years, our Fire Science Program has been a cornerstone of our institution, producing highly trained firefighters who serve our communities with dedication and valor. This proclamation reaffirms our commitment to excellence in education and our mission to empower students to make a meaningful difference in their communities.”

LRCC’s Fire Science Program has been instrumental in training and preparing generations of firefighters who serve with distinction across the state and region. LRCC has played a critical role in exceptional educational opportunities that empower individuals to succeed and contribute positively to society to ensure the safety and well-being of New Hampshire residents.

The Governor’s proclamation acknowledges the college’s regional impact in many ways. This proclamation stated, “…Over the last 50 years, Lakes Region Community College has contributed to the state’s quality of life and safety through teaching excellence and a commitment to educating the firefighter and Emergency Medical Service workforce. It is important to recognize instructors and educators who have committed their careers to education.”

LRCC has two-year associate degree and 33-credit certificate offerings in the Fire Science program, which prepare students for a rewarding career as a firefighter. The program is recognized by the United States Fire Administration through the Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education Program a. It is ranked 4th nationally among the 221 colleges who offer Fire Science programs.
