Night of Art, Identity and Inquiry

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

The Lakes Region Community College Juried Art and Writing Competition has been created to highlight and celebrate different forms of artistic expression in the lakes region of New Hampshire.  Awards will be given for an outstanding piece of writing and 2-dimensional art exemplifying creativity, imagination, and ingenuity within the competition’s theme of 
Art, Identity and Inquiry
 
The Writing Competition will consist of two categories: poetry and prose.
 
  • The winner in each category will receive between $750 - 1000. 
  • The deadline for submissions is: September 7th, 2018.
 

Submission Guidelines for Writing Prize

  • Entries may be submitted electronically via the following email address: _______@ccsnh.edu
  • Each entry must be accompanied by a submission form and release of liability form, available here: ___________________________.
  • Only one submission allowed per person.
  • Poetry: You may submit up to 3 poems, each no longer than 50 lines. Files should be in .docx, .doc, .rtf, or plain .txt format (if other formats are not available). They should be in 12-pt Times New Roman font (except if using .txt format).
  • Prose/Essays/Fiction: You may submit 1 entry, no more than 3000 words. Files should be in .docx, .doc, .rtf, or plain .txt format (if other formats are not available). They should be in 12-pt Times New Roman font and set to “Double Space’ (except if using .txt format).
  • Winners will be notified by September 28th, 2018.
  • The winners, along with a selection of other entries, will be chosen to read their poetry or prose to the public at Lakes Region Community College’s Night of Art, Identity and Inquiry on October 11th, 2018.
  • LRCC reserves the right to publish entries, but all individuals will own the copyright to their work.

Fine Print

  1. Eligibility: The Lakes Region Community College Writer’s Prize (the “Prize”) is open to all individuals. Entries must not have been published previously and must be the individual’s own creative work. Employees of LRCC and the CCSNH system and their immediate family members and persons living in their households, are not eligible to enter or win.
  2. Entry Period: The Contest begins at 12:00:00 AM EDT on June 13, 2018 and ends at 11:59:59 PM EDT on September 7, 2018 (the “Entry Period”).
  3. How to Enter: Individuals may submit one entry, which is either up to 3 poems of 50 lines or less each, or 1 prose of 3000 words or less. Individuals must also complete a submission form and release of liability form for the entry to be valid. Submissions may be emailed to LRCC _____________@ccsnh.edu during the Entry Period. All entries become property of LRCC and will not be returned. By entering the Contest, you agree that LRCC shall have the right, in its sole and absolute discretion and without compensation to you, to make use of your entry, including by reposting and displaying it at any time on any website or social media account owned or maintained by LRCC.
  4. Selection of Winners: One (1) first-prize winner and two (2) runners-up will be selected by a three-person panel decided by LRCC. Judging will be based on the quality of writing, including but not limited to content, focus, originality, form, structure, organization, style, language, and use of conventions. Winning submissions and runners-up will be invited to attend and perform their entry to the public at LRCC’s Night of the Humanities, but all individuals will own the copyright to their own work. First-prize winner and runners-up will be notified by email by September 28, 2018 and will be required to respond within five (5) business days after notice is given. Failure to meet eligibility or any other requirements, or the return of any prize or prize notification as undeliverable, will result in disqualification of winner or runner-up and, at LRCC’s option, selection of an alternative from remaining eligible entries. LRCC’s decisions concerning selection of the winner and runners-up, as well as all other matters relating to the Contest, will be final and binding.
  5. Prize: First Prize is ___________. Runner-up prizes are __________ apiece. The retail value of all prizes is ___________. All expenses, if any, associated with the acceptance and use of prizes, including but not limited to taxes, are the sole responsibility of the winner and runners-up. In the event that there is an insufficient number of eligible entries, LRCC reserves the right not to award the prizes. Prizes must be accepted as awarded, without substitution, transfer, or assignment.
  6. Limitation of Liability / Release: Entrants hereby release, discharge, and agree to indemnify and hold harmless LRCC and all of LRCC’s respective officers, directors, employees, parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, agents, and representatives (the “Released Parties”) from and against any and all claims, actions, damages, loss, injury, costs, demands, and liabilities arising in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from the Contest and/or the acceptance, possession, use, or misuse of any prize.
  7. General: This Contest will be run in accordance with these Official Contest Rules, subject to amendment by LRCC. These Official Contest Rules shall govern in the event of any inconsistency with other Contest-related materials. By participating in the Contest, entrants acknowledge that they have read and understood these Official Contest Rules and agree to abide and be bound by them and all decisions of LRCC, which shall be final and binding, without right of appeal, in all matters relating to this Contest and the awarding of prizes. LRCC, in its sole and absolute discretion, reserves the right to modify or terminate the Contest and amend the Official Contest Rules at any time, without individual notice, and for any reason. In no event will more than the stated number of prizes be awarded.
