Lakes Region Community College (LRCC) to Celebrate Women’s History Month

 

Women's History MonthPhoto:  Professor Emeritus of Women’s Studies at Parkland College, Mary Lee Sargent, will be the featured speaker at LRCC for Women’s History Month.  Sargent’s presentations will be on Thursday, March 20, 1:00 p.m., and at 6:00 p.m. 

Lakes Region Community College (formerly NHCTC-Laconia) will celebrate Women’s History Month with presentations by Mary Lee Sargent (Bow) titled "9/11, Feminism, and the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA):  The Backlash Against Women's Equality." There will be two presentations at the Main Campus on Prescott Hill; Thursday, March 20, at 1:00 p.m. The second presentation by Sargent will be at 6:00 p.m.

Sargent is Professor Emeritus of Women's Studies and U.S. History at Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois. She has also been an adjunct professor at Southern New Hampshire University and Plymouth State University. Currently teaching at NHTI, Sargent is the chair of New Hampshire Peace Action. 

An active feminist activist since 1965, Sargent is a founder of Women Rising in Resistance, Women Against Racism and A Grassroots Group of Second Class Citizens, an organization dedicated to ratification of the ERA in the early 1980s.
