Energy Services Students View Door Tester Demonstration

Photo:  Wes Riley (Bow-far left), of Horizon Energy in Bow demonstrates the use of a blower door tester to New Hampshire Community Technical College Laconia Energy Services students, David Van Houton (Bethlehem-center left), Bob Keenan (Gilford-center right), and Allison Tanner (Portsmouth-far right).

“Blower door testers are used to measure the tightness of a house,” says NHCTC Laconia Energy Services Professor, Wes Golomb (Deerfield-not pictured).  “Estimates show that the average house in NH could save a third in energy costs without sacrificing occupant lifestyle.  Blower door testers offer a key diagnostic tool for energy auditors to determine the potential for energy savings through air sealing.”

Van Houton, Keenan, and Tanner are students in Professor Golomb’s Introduction to Energy Management Principles course in the new Energy Services Program at NHCTC Laconia.

Riley is a certified HERS (Home Energy Rating System) Rater, former president of the NH Residential Energy Performance Association (REPA), and owner of Horizon Energy, a consulting firm specializing in residential energy efficiency.
