NHCTC Laconia Students Volunteer at DECA Competition

Photo: Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) 2007 Career Development Conference Coordinator, Joshua Harwood (Manchester-center), analyzes data in regard to final scoring of the day-long competitions involving hundreds of high school students.  Harwood is the Evening Operations Manager for the Hannaford Brothers Company’s Londonderry store.  Assisting are New Hampshire Community Technical College Laconia Business Management Honor Students, Kim Ladd (Meredith – left), and Charles Taggett (Meredith – right).

Ladd, Taggett, and other NHCTC Laconia students, not pictured, Casie Dumont (Lincoln), Holly Bundy (Concord), and Samantha Boutsianis (Gilmanton Iron Works), volunteered to serve as Event Chairpersons in a number of marketing-related categories.

“Going to the DECA competition was a great experience to test what I have learned in my business classes in a real-life situation,” says Ladd, who will graduate in May.  “It was a fascinating day!”

“I really enjoyed the entire competition and was extremely impressed by the amount of work that the students put into the individual competitive events,” says Taggett, who eventually plans to be in business for himself.  “I had a lot of interesting business experiences throughout the day.”
