Art Improvisation Day to be Held at NHCTC Laconia

New Hampshire Community Technical College Laconia announces Art Improvisation Day to be held at the new Center for Arts and Technology Academic Building on Prescott Hill. The Event is scheduled for Friday, March 23, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.  Artists and art students from throughout the Lakes Region and central New Hampshire are welcome to attend.

“Individuals who register for Art Improvisation Day will be given a box of ‘junk’ and will be expected to create works of art with access to select professional art supplies,” says NHCTC Laconia Fine Arts Department Coordinator, Dr. Pat Wild (Gilford). “The first Art Improvisation Day, held last year, was a resounding success.”  Students from Newfound, Gilford, Laconia, and Franklin High Schools competed for gift certificates to art supply stores.

Dr. Wild got the idea following a visit to the New Orleans Art Museum in 2005. She saw a retrospective exhibit of Xavier University Professor John Scott’s work that impressed her. Wild came back to New Hampshire determined to infuse Scott’s ideas into NHCTC Laconia’s Art Program.

“It is amazing what the contestants were able to create,” says NHCTC Laconia Academic Affairs Vice President, Tom Goulette (Belmont), the College’s former Graphic Arts Department Head who served as one of the judges. “What talent!”

First place was awarded to Rebecca Litchfield (Franklin). Roxey Connelly (Gilford) received second place and Jamie Alley (Gilford) was third place.
