Gabe's Scholarship Winner
Photo: (7/14/10) Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) Sara Mather (Plymouth- left), receives the grand prize for Gabe's Scholarship's first fundraiser from Lakes Region Community College (LRCC) graduate and scholarship founder, Lisa Rollins (Alton Bay- right). Gabe, who the scholarship is named after, Rollins' 8-month-old son, looks on. Gabe's Fund is a scholarship that was originated by Rollins where she desires to express to her son the importance of giving back to one's community at the earliest possible age.

Mather won four NASCAR Sprint Cup series tickets donated by New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) and four VIP passes to the Tilt'n Diner. Rollins delivered the grand prize to Mather at LRGHealthcare in Laconia where the photograph was taken.

"We are excited and ecstatic about the outcome of our first-ever fundraiser for Gabe's Fund," says Rollins, who graduated with a LRCC Liberal Arts Associate Degree before continuing for her Social Sciences Bachelor's Degree at Ashford University. Gabe's Scholarship will be given to LRCC single parents in need. "Individuals assisting in fundraising gathered $764.82 over the three-day bake sale and raffle held at the Gilford Wal-Mart recently. The Lakes Region community came through with flying colors in donating goods and services."

Businesses that donated were NHMS, Meadowbrook US Cellular Pavilion, Towne Place Suites by Marriott (Gilford), M/S Mount Washington Cruiseline (Weirs Beach), Patrick's Pub and Eatery (Gilford), The Lodge (Belmont), Hector's Restaurant (Laconia), Greenside Tavern and Restaurant at Lochmere Country Club, Autoserv (Laconia), Gilford Cinema 8, Rocky Mountain Chocolates (Tilton), Hillside Meadows Agway (Tilton), The Hair Affair (Gilford), Weirs Beach Drive-in, Pauli's Bakery (Tilton), Ami-Lynn's Bakery (Alton), and the Tilt'n Diner.

"Special thanks also go to Alisha Young (Gilford), Louise Rollins (Alton Bay), MaryLou Baker (Gilford), Celina Boulanger (Gilmanton), Larry Thompson (Laconia), Diane Brown (Rumney), and Harriet Cohen (Gilford), for their hard work and dedication to the Gabe's Scholarship Fund," concludes Rollins.
