Early Childhood Education Literacy Project
Photo: Preschool Teacher, Tina Davis (Meredith-left), and Early Childhood Education Professor, Janet Kibbee (Penacook-right), look at the book, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? in the Belmont Early Learning Center (BELC). Davis was a student in Lakes Region Community College’s (LRCC) summer 2009 Infant and Toddler Development class and is the preschool teacher at the Center.
Students in Professor Kibbee’s summer course created sock puppets depicting characters from Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?, written by Bill Martin, as part of a Literacy Bag presented to youngsters at BELC.
"Using puppets to act out a familiar story creates many important early literacy skills for children," says Kibbee, LRCC’s Early Childhood Education Program Coordinator. "LRCC early childhood students benefit tremendously from experiencing hands-on opportunities such as puppet-making."
Classes start on Monday, August 31. Registrations are still being accepted for ECE courses. Call LRCC Admissions Director, Wayne Fraser (Alton), at 524-3207 for additional information. One may also stop by the Main Campus on Prescott Hill, Laconia.
