This combined course prepares the student for the Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analyst as well as Envelope Professional written and field exams. With this training students can pursue a careeer in energy auditing and performance contracting. Students will develop an understanding of how a house works as an energy system, fundamental and advanced insulation and air sealing principles, BPI combustion safety protocols, as well as advanced residential building envelope diagnostic skills. Compared to Building Analyst training alone, this combined course will put greater emphasis on developing and reviewing building performance workscopes.

Prerequisite: Basic math, science, and computer skills; good verbal and written communication skills; and good physical condition. Students must understand that they have to attend all eight days of the class in order to complete the class. Recommended skills: familiarity with residential building energy, mechanical and structural systems.

Course Description
This course prepares the student for the BPI Building Analyst written and field exam, and to pursue a career in the Energy Auditing Profession. Students will develop an understanding of how a house works as a system, why some homes fail, and how to use the latest building science technology to help resolve residential heating, cooling, base load and air leakage problems.

Course Prerequisites
REQUIRED SKILLS: Basic math, science, and computer skills; Good verbal and written communication skills; Good physical condition. Students must understand that they have to attend all six days of the class in order to complete the class.
RECOMMENDED SKILLS: Familiarity with building systems (structural, energy, mechanical, etc.). Ability to practice building diagnostic procedures outside of the course will greatly improve the likelihood of passing the field test.
