Since settling in the Lakes Region in 2000, Ryan’s life took a different turn in 2024 when he stepped foot into LRCC with a clear goal: to pursue nursing. Despite a lengthy hiatus from formal education, armed with a GED, Ryan leaped, starting with Interdisciplinary Studies to reacquaint himself with the academic realm.

Ryan’s career trajectory is as diverse as it is intriguing, ranging from construction to fast food—a testament to his adaptability and willingness to explore various paths. However, beneath these varied experiences lies a constant thread: a deep-seated desire to make a tangible difference in people’s lives.

For Ryan, nursing isn’t just a profession; it’s a vocation fueled by empathy and a genuine love for helping others. “I’m caring, and I want a job that serves my community,” he shares candidly, revealing the heart behind his chosen path. With two daughters looking up to him, Ryan sees his pursuit of nursing as more than personal fulfillment; it’s about setting an example of perseverance and determination, making his children proud, and instilling in them the belief that it’s never too late to chase your dreams.

Ryan’s journey at LRCC has been characterized by unwavering support from faculty and staff who go above and beyond to ensure his success. From free tutoring sessions with a Yale medical student teaching him anatomy and physiology, to finding inspiration in professors like Matt Simon and Julie Morin, Ryan’s experience underscores the transformative power of mentorship and community.

To those contemplating a similar journey, Ryan offers straightforward advice: “It’s never too late.” With determination and the backing of LRCC’s nurturing environment, Ryan is set to graduate with his Nursing degree in spring 2026—a shining example of resilience and the pursuit of one’s true calling.
